Our friend Qwerty888 linked us to this Kotaku article of a most "kickass" opening cinematic from Witcher 2. I doubt the game is this exciting but this video is one of the best game opening sequences I've seen .... ever. Check it out (you must be old enough to awesome).
We are always looking for a few good gents (or ladies) to round out our ranks, and boost our awesomeness stats... (we like to roll twenties around these parts). So in a recent effort to recruit the ever-living-heck out of our community, we have identified three long standing individuals that are:
Great players,
Great people,
And real live American Heroes!
(Ok, so the last one is a bit much. But every good list has an exclamation at the end.)
Today, we are proud to announce some new additions to our 3-PG Staff! All of them have been stand up people, helping others, encouraging fair play, being positive, and overall, just strengthening our community.
First, Hooflungpoo has been leveled up to Deputy. HIGH FIVE!
Second, Giggas has been leveled up to Deputy. HIGH FIVE!
And Third, DonkeyCronk has been leveled up to Event Staff. DOUBLE HIGH FIVE!
What are these groups all about? Why have these fine stand-up individuals been selected to endure repeated hazings and physical/mental abuse at the hands of our twisted power-mad admins?
The Deputy group is for people we see as potential Game Server Admins. We look to this group to facilitate play on our servers, introduce new players to the ropes, help with events, and just keep things fun. The Event Staff group is is for contributors to our overall Community beyond just playing on our TF2 servers. We look to this group to facilitate our community growth, assisting in event planning, helping in running the events themselves, contributing all sorts of content, and helping us grow in new and exciting ways.
Both groups are equally important, and we need great people to be a part of both! Some things that we are working on and always need help with:
Game Server Events, such as our developing Retro Mod Night
Community Events, like our recent Child's Play events, help with planning, execution, and success of our events.
Content Creation, like writing articles, submitting art, finding great things on the net, etc.
Source Mod Development with our continuing Team Portress work (modeling, texturing, mapping, game design)
Web Development (php, mysql, scripting)
If you are interested in joining our esteemed ranks, PM either myself (discardme) or Kevlar through the forums.
Since many of you haven't gotten your beta access yet, I thought I would put together a review of some of the new features of the game. Part 1 will be just general review and Part 2 will be a class review of the Monk class.
I remember reading several threads complaining about the graphics in the game being to cartoony. When I loaded it up, and got into game it definitely felt like a diablo game. I think people misplace an upgraded visual engine that can produce a more dynamic and vibrant world as cartoony. The visuals, sounds, and music all work really well at least for the part I played.
Loot is automatically distributed to players so only they can get it. I tested this with striker and it works without any issues from what we could see. No more trying to frantically click where loot might fall around diablo or baal. Also, just walking over gold or scraps automatically picks them up. You can also summon a pet that picks up those items for a time duration and it doesn't take or do any damage just a helper.
All of your special attacks are based off of weapon damage, even for the wizard. As you get better items your skills/spells get stronger if they do any damage. This is great for 2 reasons.
You aren't limited on your spells once you reach a max level of skills like in diablo 2. You get the spell and the only way to modify the skill is better weapon damage or runestone (discussed later).
Every spell can now be useful and Diablo 3 focuses more skill combinations and items instead of cookie cutter skill templates that punish severely with any minor derivation.
DC Universe Online turned one year old this past Wednesday, and it’s amazing how much has changed since launch! Word is out that it's free to play, but what else can you expect if you haven’t been on in a while?
The biggest complaint from the early adopters was the content gap after level 20. According to the official website, SOE has added more than 200 new quests since launch. I logged into the level 24 gadgeteer I abandoned ten months ago, and I can verify there are a lot more options in the old journal than I remember. This means more instances, more duos and alerts, and more classic characters to interact with than ever.
Unfortunately, SOE moves a lot slower on the “new powers” issue. Early on, they printed a list of power sets they were developing. To date, only two have emerged: the powerful healing Electricity/Electrostatic set, and the infamous light manipulation power rings of the Green Lantern Corps.. Free players can purchase each of the new power sets for $10, along with new themed instances and the first new city since launch: Central City, hometown of the Flash!
There are three tiers of accounts:
1. Free Players – This is the totally free tier, limited to two characters and a small inventory. These players can not receive items or cash in their mailbox, can not use voice chat, and can not send more than six text messages every 30 seconds. This last one is designed to cut out spam from currency peddlers.
2. “Premium” Players – There’s still no monthly fee at this level. If you purchased the game before it went free to play, you are considered Premium. All anyone else has to do to reach Premium is spend at least $5 dollars in the DCUO store, including DLC packs and PvP Legends characters. In exchange you get four more character slots, increased inventory, voice chat functionality, and the ability to receive items in the mail.
3. “Legendary” Players – This is original recipe DCUO. This is the subscription tier, which still requires $15 a month. In exchange, you get more everything—More characters, more inventory space, and the ability to send cash in your mailbox. Further, these are the only players who can form Legions (DCUO Guilds), and they get every DLC pack for free as long as they keep subscribing.
Old school players may also be interested to know the game updates regularly. The latest patch just exploded on the scene a few days ago, and brought with it the brand new Crafting system. Players can now find material called “exobits” scattered throughout the three cities in various forms. These can be used to created consumable power-ups, as well as devices used in DCUO’s equivalent to World of Warcraft’s jewel-and-socket system.
My Advice? DCUO is still the best superhero MMO in town, and it’s only gotten better with time. The character customization is still not up to par with City of Heroes or Champions Online, but the action-style gameplay just can not be beat. It’s FREE, it’s on Steam, and you should be playing it.
The only thing you’ve got to lose is your chance to save the world.
For those of us older, ahem, slightly more wiser, compatriots of the gaming world, we remember certain legends from the olden days of yore. Heroes of four walled arenas full of rage and pain... heroes like Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, the Ultimate Warrior, and Sargeant Slaughter. Heroes that... OH YEAH!!!
Is this the master of disaster, RANDY "MACHO MAN" SAVAGE(RIP), as a Dragon?!? What is going on? How is this possible? Is that Disco Inferno?!?
FancyPantz, kudos to you and your idea... I can't even finish, OMG, this is hilarious. Dragons + Macho Man == Awesome!
