Big Gaming Mergers
Written by Cannonarm

With the economy as it is worldwide it is a prime time for mergers and buyouts as some companies remain strong and others weaken.  Currently there are two huge mergers concerning the gaming community.  Several months ago we told you that Blizzard and Activision are teaming up. After months of negotiations its finally official. Also there is a lesser known Ubisoft and Hybride deal coming together.  These two mergers can only help to strengthen an ever growing gaming industry that is already topping DVD sales for the first time ever.

ubihybUbisoft is acquiring Hybride which is the visual effects studio responsible for movies like 300, and Sin City.  Ubisoft is adding the movie study company to help bolster the graphics and visual effects of their games, as the industry is focusing more and more on that area.  With games such as Assassin's Creed and the Tom Clancy series, Ubisoft has already proven that they can delivery the visual effects needed to survive.  blizact

Blizzard and Activision are teaming up to create what they call the world's most profitable gaming business, worth over 18.8 billion dollars.  Blizzard is owned by Vivendi which will now be a subsidiary of Activision even though Blizzard will own a majority of the stocks.  Suprizingly though ID, a developer owned by Activision has left them to join with EA.

chronoFor those of you who have already been lucky enough to play what many consider to be the greatest RPG of all time, Nintendo is porting over Chrono Trigger to the Nintendo DS.  Now another generation gets the chance to play with Chrono and the gang as the bounce around time saving the world.

There is no release date yet, and the American website is yet to be up, but excitement is growing greatly by the second.  Official sources have said that the game will make use of the touch screen, although no one knows if the touch screen will be for primary movement or if it adds a new game play mechanic.

Mega Man 9

If you haven't already figured out my alias for all my fps games comes from my childhood hero, Mega Man.  Now after the X4's and battle networks I lost track but now they are coming out with another release from the original series.  MegaMan 9 looks a lot like the first 3 games, which were always my favorites.  It is an 8 bit game after all. (Although the debate over whether 2 or 3 is better is another story)

MegaMan 9 has a Japanese release date for September, so throw a couple months on it and it will probably come out in the US in November or December.  There was rumor that it would be only WiiWare but it appears that Capcom will port the game to other systems to download.  There is also rumor that one of the bosses will be a something woman, such as tree woman or non-threatening noun lady. (Bubbleman... seriously) It's about time the game decided to have more evil female bosses, because the 8bit voice over female scream will be awesome.

Blizzard offers extra protection

lock_jpegApparently password generating key chains that are linked by satellites that many high end corporate users use to protect their billion dollar companies have other uses now.  You can use these to protect your WoW account, which is definitely the more important of two.  You can get another job, but do you think you can ever get that epic set back.  I think not.

Blizzard will release a keychain that will generate a one time use password that users will have to enter with their account name and password to be able to log in.  The keychain will retail for about $7.00.  It shouldn't be for the forgetful, because if you lose it the only way to log back in is to call blizzard technical support and supply them with your personal information to get it back.

None of the other MMO companies are looking into this extra security at the moment.  Right now Blizzard is leading the way for security but other companies are looking to see if the idea is successful or not.  If it is, you may have to just carry a keychain password generator for every game you own.
