I went to the Kumoricon anime festival this last weekend in nearby Vancouver Washington with my nephew Hyouketsu and we had a blast.    Its main feature seemed to be the cosplay event which was very popular but had all kinds of fun stuff to do.  Live bands (The Slants and A-Key-Kyo), seminars, game room, viewing rooms, anime and manga library / reading room and a large exhibition in the parking garage. Among all the cosplayers participating at the Hilton, the room held whopping 800 spectators and the line to get in formed early and wrapped around the building .  My niece was in the cosplay event and we didn't get a chance to see her perform, but  even on her 2nd day at the event when we met her there, she still had tons of energy.  I really enjoyed all the enthusiasm and the unique costumes that everybody wore and was impressed by the hotel staff that came out and gave people refreshments who waited outside in the line.   It was very cool.

Were thinking about going to Sakura-Con in Seattle next March which seems more authentic to Japanese / Asian traditional anime and culture.  Check it out.  I heard that the prime minister of Japan is going to host the opening ceremonies.

Ring Ring Ring, Emulator Phone

Well that didn't take to long, the IPhone has its first NES emulator working on it, even if the controls look a little clumbsy. It needs to turn on its sideways all GBA micro style, pad on the left, buttons on the right, but hey its brand new.

It's still in the works and uses InfoNES for the emulator. It's also apparently still a bit slow to play, though looking at the google code page for it there are two "speed up" patches. If you've got one I'd love to know how it works.

DS homebrew competition

Dev-FR has announced the entries in its homebrew coding competition for the Nintendo DS.   A total of 11 applications and 14 games have been submitted where you you can download and try them for free.

Get Out - DS homebrew game by Jao I kinda like the idea of this Pac-man like game called  'Get Out'.   Players have to escape their classrooms without being spotted by patrolling teachers. Sneaking out becomes harder with each level as the number of instructor sentries and their walking speed increases. To aid you in your noble quest, empty desks are available for you to duck into if you see one of the teachers headed for your row.

Its said to lack a soundtrack and the icons were ripped from Earthbound, but you cant beat the price ... FREE!

WoW, Guam Senator has lvl 70 priests!

Senator of Guam In an interview with Pacific Daily News, Senator Ray Tenorio, a representative of Guam, revealed that he is a World of Warcraft player… a serious level-70 Dwarf priest at that, too. He goes by the name of Paleray on the Silverhand server and is even a member of a guild.

Tenorio was also a big fan of Diablo 2 and switched to WoW after his brother told him they needed a healer.  It doesn't sound like he has plans of switching games soon for he likes the diversity of the game and Blizzards ability to keep adding new content.

EA chief says "Were boring people to death... ".   Pumping out sequels to familiar game franchises is not the way to go.  Striving towards making games more innovative and strafing away from the "rinse and repeat" methodology is a good thing bro!

Jack Trenton of UMD (Universal Media Disk) used by Sony for use on the PSP takes a stand .  He seems to realize  that the future of gaming companies relies on smart consumers that recognize content, not idiots that buy dvd's based on hype for 3rd party applications.  Be careful for what you wish for,
