Shortly after my birthday I found myself in possession of a shiny new EB gift certificate. I hadn't picked up a new game for a while so I wandered down to my local EB for a quick browse and walked out of there with a little game called Titan Quest.
Titan Quest in most reviews had been hailed as the new Diablo 2, and while I wouldn't quite go that far (I'm sure the Diablo series holds a small place in more than a few of our hearts), it's still worth the play through. You start off in Greece, as a classless level 1 character, monsters, satyrs to start off with, running amok all across Greece. Once you’re done with Greece you get to move on to Egypt and finally end up in the Orient.

Among reaching level 2 you’re given a chance to learn one of 8 masteries. I think it’s the class system that I've enjoyed the most and while not necessarily new and unseen before, it’s highly customizable. When you reach Level 8 you’re given the option of learning another mastery for a total of two. In case you haven’t thought about this yet that gives you a grand total of 64 different class combinations and with each mastery holding 20 skills each that gives you 40 skills in each class combination, and well, that’s a fair amount of playroom. The 8 masteries are Defence, Earth, Hunting, Nature, Rouge, Spirit, Storm and Warfare. Each combination holds its own unique name, for example if you start off with Warfare for you first mastery, your given the class title “Warrior”, but choose Storm, and you’re a “Thane”, or Rouge and you’re an “Assassin”. I realize its just small Icing on the cake kind of thing, but it’s still pretty cool.

Once you clear the three stages in the game you unlock another difficulty that you can replay through using the character that you just completed the game with to gain more experience, levels and better equipment. When you complete it once you gain access to Epic mode, and upon completing epic mode, your gain access to legendary mode.

While I don’t think it’s a Diablo 2 killer to any stretch of the imagination, I do feel that It’s a good game that stands well on its own. Once you add the replay value, not only on the large class combinations, but also with the Difficulty roll overs its a game that gives back as much as you're willing to put into it.
